A unique open call for exhibition proposals, two times per year that invites anyone from anywhere to submit a proposal for a group exhibition.
Proposals are approximately 500 words or less, and no images, links, videos, or CVs are accepted.
FA351 Benefits
Students gain real-world, real-time opportunities to evaluate proposals and consider what makes a compelling short essay while helping to determine next season's programming.
As apexart jurors, you will review ideas coming from all around the world— the last open call from ApexART.org brought proposals in from 68 countries!
This curatorial opportunity will benefit students of FA351 by being on the other side of the "grading" process.
This experience is essential to one's own understanding of the curatorial process and provides great classroom discussion and leadership for students looking to step into a career in museum and arts management studies.
Additionally, reviewing a number of very diverse proposed themes gives students specific opportunities in the valuable insight of themes on a global scale.

What FA351 Museum as Medium students do:
Approximately 300–400 individuals from around the world are given the opportunity to be an ApexART.org juror. By doing so, all will use an online crowdsourcing system, wherein each juror votes on a subset of proposals. The signature selection process results in exhibitions that reflect the interests of audiences near and far.
This is a real-world experience that you will be assigned to complete while earning real-life curatorial experience and a grade towards your participation in this exciting opportunity!
The process will encourage lively discussion about many aspects of curating, writing, and exhibition organization including size, location, purpose, and success.
As a group, we will be reading, discussing, and finally voting on approximately 30-40 proposals. This will take two class periods to complete.

What ApexART.org will do:
Each student will be given an individual login through which they review proposals, rating each one on a scale of 1–5.
What ApexART.org will provide
They will send login information, instructions, and deadline reminders to the students. When we are ready to end the voting and begin the discussion, ApexArt.org provides us with a tally page that shows all the votes from our class. This displays the ratings for each proposal given by each student, a copy of the proposal, and the order of its ranking as determined by all jurors. YOU ARE THE JURORS!!
A little history about this exciting opportunity!
To date, more than 41 classes from universities and art schools have participated, including The New School, Node Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard Center for Curatorial Studies, de Appel Curatorial Program, Makere University, and MICA. Cazenovia College will work alongside these prestigious schools as the jurying/curatorial process opens at ApexART.org.
As a thank you to all student jurors, ApexART.org will provide a free copy of one of apexart's e-book publications which cover many diverse issues in the arts.
