There are 3 parts to this project...
Taxidermy
Create a fictional creature ripped from the wildness of your imagination.
i. A Jack-a-lope of sorts, made from found materials.
This creature is the subject of your Bell Jar.
> Name it.
> Name it.
> Create a context for the subject with objects/materials of the natural environment that once supported it.
> Where was it discovered?
By whom?
Date found?
> Where was it discovered?
By whom?
Date found?
ii. Create a wall label noting the fictional name, etc. for your artifact:
Artifact / Country of origin / Date / Media
Dimensions H” x W” x D” of subject / other known information / reproduction behavior / carnivore / omnivore / herbivore / etc.
iii. Create a WALL TEXT document in 6 paragraphs.
This should be a fictional account of the artifact in the Bell Jar.
Note its place of origin, characteristics, other facts about your "discovered creature"
Include a map of the area (fictional or factual)

The findings of the Diaboli creature from the Holy Lands of Jerusalem on exhibit in The Cazenovia College Jephson Wunderkammer. The skull of this rumored creature has been touched by evil due to its unusual horns made of bone. Its existence pre dates back to the time of Christ itself and no one knows when they appeared into existence. The skull has been displayed in multiple historical museums such as Gallery of Paleontology and Comparative Anatomy in Paris, France.
The story of the creature Diabolidates back to the time of Christ in Jerusalem. The creature was discovered in 1976 by archeologists, who were doing research in the Holy Lands and they discovered a creature who at first looked like a tiny monkey. However, after some slight digging, the skull was found and it had horns like you would see on drawings of what people believed the devil might look like. The archeologist Gabriel found it fitting because it was found in the Holy Lands and the horns on its head that the creature would be named the Latin word Diaboli, the translation means evil or the Devil.
The skull was later taken back to Paris, France to The Gallery of Paleontology and Comparative Anatomy where further research could be done. A shocking discovery was made that this little creature dates back to AD 30, when Christ was in Jerusalem or supposedly was, but there is no evidence to this day that tells when the creature first appeared or why it was there. Although, after running a few more tests the creature has a similar body structure to the squirrel monkey and possibly a similar diet. Which brought the question of what was it doing in Jerusalem?
The Diaboli has been on display in The Gallery of Paleontology and Comparative Anatomy in Paris and has been taken to multiple museums in the United States as well. Also, the only part of the Diaboli that is displayed is the skull; as scientist are using the other parts to still dig for information. Not to mention they feared the bones of the body were too fragile to be put on display. The skull sits in a small bell jar usually on a pedestal or in a cabinet of some sort depending on where the museums wish to display it.

Scientists have many theories as well as bringing in historians to try to shed some light on the question of this creature’s whereabouts when alive. One theory was that someone smuggled the creature in to sell to the highest bidder, another was that it was captured by poachers and was to be skinned but somehow got away when it was being moved. However, the most controversial theory that was given by a historian from Denmark was that the creature was cats upon the earth at the death of Christ in the sign of the betrayal of humankind. As to most this seemed absurd but when you brought in the question of the horns and where it was found the theory was almost believable.
A scientist tried to dive deeper into what the true appearance of the creature might have been the closest, they have gotten using computer programing looks very close to what the baby version of Hellboy in the movie, but nothing is for certain. Later on, scientists went back to Jerusalem hoping for new information on the creature, but nothing further has been found. Scientists hope to attempt to find something or at least find more on the story of the animal’s life.

There are many rumors that this creature is the inspiration behind many stories and that the movie Hellboy was based on the creature’s form. The Diaboli’sstory as a living creature is still being attempted by many scientists and historians around the world, but it is rumored they may give up and that this creature will forever stay in the unknown. This creature may always be multiple what ifs and never have a true story of its own to be told.

Baby Water Dragon
Discovered in the depths of Gaia by Regent Cid Fabool of Linblum
in 1789 A.D while traveling a flight on his airship, the Hilda Garde
Wall Label/Map:
Taxidermy baby water dragon/Mist Continent of Gaia/1789 A.D/Baby water dragon, snapdragon flowers, butterflies/H 6 inches from head to tail. Baby to Leviathan/Sexual reproduction/Herbivores, but will attack an airship. Baby water dragon will follow its mother’s guiding light/Mostly lives in the waters of Gaia but is capable of being on land and flying.
Materials:
Glass and wood bell jar (Wal-Mart), baby water dragon, Styrofoam, snapdragons, glitter butterflies, hot glue, silver pedestal (A.C Moore all other materials)
Wall Text:
In the early years of Gaia, many creatures roamed her land and sea. In the years following the death of his brother, the King to Alexandria (1789 A.D) and Princess Garnet being left with her wicked mother, Regent Cid took it upon himself to keep track of his niece, the princess, and make sure she becomes in reign.
For the wealthy type, the airship was the most common way of travel. Regent Cid took to board the Hilda Garde and set a course for Alexandria. With the help of creatures like the Moogles, Cid was able to avoid most run-ins with such beasts. Out of all the beasts that roamed Gaia, the one that caused many problems was the water dragon known as Leviathan.
Water dragons are very smart because they can be in both sea and land. Even in an airship, danger still lurked below. This baby water dragon was captured by Regent Cid and his crew aboard the Hilda Garde on the journey to Alexandria.
These creatures possess power so they can fight with both physical and magical attacks. Their tail can take out a whole team in one swipe and they can freeze you in one breath. It is always wise to take caution and not turn your back on the beasts.
Since the discovery, it seems that the beasts are now extinct, but they have some relatives that now live amongst us. Although these relatives don’t possess the same powers as their ancestors, they have now become omnivores to adapt to their new environment. The Leviathan and its babies have left behind a great story for humans to tell.
Regent Cid has since then assisted his niece in becoming Queen Garnet to Alexandria and helped her take down the beasts that stood in her way. The baby water dragon here could not give much of a fight as it was already in stress watching its mother fight for her life. The taxidermy baby water dragon has remained at the palace of Alexandria, safe in the royal hunt room but will be taken on display in Cazenovia, New York.
Press Release:
Regent Cid to Linblum’s great discovery of the mighty water dragon!

While walking through the woods at Vets Field in Oneida, New York, I came along something that really caught my eye. A neon colored bird. As I just learned about the Neon Featherbody Bird, I really wondered if it was the same type of bird. With some research, I found that the bird flies around the world all year round, I really could not believe what I have found. The bird has been found in many places including but not limited to China, Egypt, and South Africa.
This bird is never the same in color when it reproduces. This specific Neon Featherbody Birdis purple with highlights of neon blue, pink, and orange, and some yellow. The beak is neon blue and silver. So, I felt as if I needed to preserve the beauty, so I had the wonderful bird stuffed.
TheNeon Featherbody Bird only can fly to get to their destinations due to not having feet, only wings and two long feathers. Along with a lot of small beaked birds, this bird is an herbivore. This bird mostly eats butterfly's hence the butterfly's that are in the glass jar. Many believe that the colors from the butterflies bleeding into the outer of the bird after digesting the butterfly, making the bird so colorful.
The lights in the glass jar not only help show the colors of the bird, but also, represent the fact that this species of bird cannot see in the dark. This was found out when ornithologist Dr. Angela Hall decided to take a living Neon Featherbody Birdand test it before it became illegal to touch any living Neon Featherbody Bird. The bird was flying around easy when lights were on but when the lights went off the bird could no longer navigate where is wanted to go or where it even was.
Another thing Dr. Hall discovered was that the bird has no bones and is completely flexible, everywhere. This was first found out when the bird kept escaping the cage even though Hall made the bars smaller and smaller every new cage she bought. She bought six cages before deciding to keep the bird in an enclosed cage.
While making this bell jar, I learned a great amount about the bird. Although the feathers look like regular feathers, this bird feathers’ feel leathery. Another thing I have discovered is, the bird’s nest is made for a single bird. This is obvious because of its reproduction facts. However, I learned more of what happened to it when the bird dies. The bird lays the egg right as it dies and when the bird hatches it abandons the nest for good. I found this because the bird that hatched out, dropped the nest on the ground, and did not pick it up.

For Immediate Release:
Muwaan Mat’s waterlogged journal documents an accidental discovery of an elusive creature amidst an expedition to the Cobán municipality. The motivation for the expedition sprang from a scholarly desire to survey the area rumored in the 16th Century to be the maw of Xibalba. As Mat explored a cave system behind a waterfall, she came across a series of shallow pools with curious, darting occupants inside.
The existence of theTranscendental Betta(Betta vitaetinterituscame)has been hinted at in a few of the few ancient manuscripts that still survive. It is more than likely that in the past they were domesticated but such practices have vanished from recent memory. Now that they have been rediscovered, however, a market for domesticated TranscendentalBettais sure to be on the rise.
There is some debate as to the evolutionary purpose and origins of the Transcendental Betta’sappearance, which is so distinctive. It had no natural predators at the time of its discovery and now, arguably, their only predator is mankind. Some scholars argue that the Bettaslowly evolved to mimic the flowers that surrounded its pools -- like orchids. Their fins resemble the genetic pattern of its Asiatic cousins with “rose tails”. The Transcendentals’ color patterns are as diverse as the flowers that surround them, but the most common colors are pink and white.
A collaborative response to questions of collection and curation, the latest Jephson Wunderkammer exhibit promises a sense of creative whimsy. From eight student artists, this exhibition consists of bell jars and other vessels that capture snapshots of unique flora and fauna. Among these, the enchanting Transcendental Bettais featured in a jar presented by Julia Dudley. Above all else, a joyful appreciation of nature and its quirks pervades this exhibition, which will open with a reception on Thursday, March 14th from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. and will run through April 11th, 2019.

Come gaze upon one of the most horrifying creatures to ever roam the planet. The Femina Araneae otherwise known as Cantus Singing Spider Woman, once the top predator of the Macedonia Mountains is one of the most intriguing specimens to have ever been studied. Now thought of to be an extinct species, this preserved specimen is the only one of its kind. Since its discovery many biologists and zoologists have been in search of other Femina Araneae Cantus. Despite best efforts worldwide, there have been no other recorded sightings of this magnificent creature. There are very few recorded ancient recordings of creatures that could be Femina Araneae Cantus, though this creature is rumored to be the byproduct from the goddess Athena’s curse on weaver Arachne. The only thing we know for sure about the Singing Spider Woman, was that it was an apex predator of the Macedonia mountains and it belonged to a sub group of the arachnid family. The Singing Spider Woman will be on display at the Reisman Hall Art Gallery located on 6 Sullivan St, Cazenovia, NY 13035 from March 14thto April 11th. Come take a look at it for yourself, if you believe that you are brave enough.

Unicub
Canada
October 24, 2017
Mammal, Omnivore, Sexual Reproduction
This Unicub was discovered by Claire Woods on her journey in Canada. Woods discovered the Unicub on October 24, 2017 then tracked and researched the animal for ever since. The Unicub is an amazing discovery, giving proof that somewhere there are unicorns out there. The Unicub is a crossbreed of a grizzly bear and a Unicorn.
They live in valleys close to water to supply their food supply, this specific one was located near the Fraser River. The Fraser River is located in British Columbia, Canada and is near the Rocky Mountains. While there have been many sightings of grizzly bears near the river, there has yet to be a sighting of a unicorn. Woods is still baffled by discover the Unicub before Unicorns have even been spotted.
The Fraser River supplies the Unicub’s omnivore diet. Unicubs have a diet of berries and fish from the rivers. The animal mainly consumes salmon from the river, but also enjoys blueberries and raspberries found in the valleys.
The population of Unibears is still unknown. Woods spotted 5 on her ventures in Canada, but it is very likely that there are more. Even if the population is small, Woods believes that their population will rise sufficiently due to their defense mechanism.
The Unibears have strange behaviors. They are very territorial, and Woods believes this is from their grizzly bear genes. However, when upsetted, they shoot glitter out of their horns to blind any creature in their way.
The Unibears are mammals and reproduce sexually. The female Unibears carry their fetuses for 1 year before giving birth. They usually only can carry two offsprings at most during a pregnancy. Their mating season occurs in the late spring when the Unicubs come out of hibernation.
